Residential Tenancies Act reforms passed

Reforms to the Residential Tenancies Act have passed without amendment.

As suggested by REINSW, this will significantly affect the way agents and agencies operate. It will also impact the real estate industry, landlords and tenants.

REINSW President Leanne Pilkington says the Residential Tenancies Amendment (Review) Bill 2018 has passed and REINSW is now commencing the first phase of educating the real estate industry through the RTA Tour.

“It is important for our profession to understand all the changes the new Bill includes,” she says.

“REINSW will be conducting intensive RTA training sessions in 17 locations across the state beginning in Sydney next Thursday, 25 October.”

The RTA Tour will reach as far south as Albury, on the state’s border, and north as far as Byron Bay. Training sessions will also be held in Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Sylvania, Dubbo and Dee Why, and more.

Pilkington says once the regulation is released – the guidelines that dictate how the Act should be applied – REINSW will commence the next phase of educating and supporting its members.

Working for fair and equitable outcomes

For over three years, REINSW, the REINSW Property Management Chapter Committee and dedicated RTA Sub-Committee have worked tirelessly to achieve fair and equitable outcomes for all stakeholders in the lead up to the Bill.

“We specifically identified areas in the current legislation requiring reform,” says Pilkington. “While many of our lobbying efforts have been adopted in whole or part by the Government, a lot have been ignored.”
