Albury NAC winner urges women to enter

16 May 2017

Real estate business owner Kaly Smith, who won the Albury Novice Auctioneers Competition (NAC) heat on Monday 15 May, has urged more women to enter future heats.

Kaly worked as a property manager for 10 years before opening her own business, KS Property Solutions, in September 2016.

She competed against two other budding auctioneers, Brent Booker and Clark Watson, in the fifth NAC heat. They each auctioned off four items, however were only judged on their first auction, and helped raise a total of $2,825 for the McGrath Foundation

Kaly said: “I decided to enter to get outside of my comfort zone and represent women in auctioneering because it is such a male dominated field.

“I have never done an auction before so I was watching YouTube videos the day before to refine my technique, but it was mainly about being organised and prepared which is what women are good at. I was very nervous beforehand because there were so many agents from our area there.

“I would recommend for women to give it a go and not feel intimidated. Be powerful and strong and be who you are. You never know where it can take you and I found I loved it and it is a strength I will delve into now.”

Kaly will now compete in the NAC State Final in Sydney on 10 August where the overall winner scoops $1,000, gets to conduct the charity auction at the REINSW Women in Real Estate Conference in November, and receive two tickets to the REINSW Awards for Excellence dinner in October.

There are five remaining heats so there’s still time to have a go. The events are being held at:

Heat six - Wollongong - Thursday, 18 May 2017
Heat seven - Castle Hills - Thursday, 15 June 2017
Heat eight - Dee Why - Tuesday, 27 June 2017
Heat nine - Newcastle - Wednesday, 5 July 2017
Heat 10 - Balmain - Sydney - Thursday, 13 July 2017.
