Properties to get energy ratings

25 November 2016

A new tool has been launched which will give Australian properties their own energy efficiency rating for the first time.

realestate.com.au has launched Energy Scores for Australian properties, which will give property buyers and tenants an indication of how energy efficient their next home could be.

It will also help homeowners and tenants better understand their energy usage, associated costs and where they could potentially reduce their energy expenditure.

Owners and renters can also input more information about their own energy usage to refine the score to help give a more detailed breakdown and analysis of their usage.

Energy Scores was created in partnership with Tendril, a global expert in data analytics and home energy modelling, and will also provide comparisons to other homes and scores.

Henry Ruiz, REA Group Chief Digital Officer, said: “We’re working towards providing a rich view of every property on realestate.com.au.

“Energy Scores may offer deeper insights into the energy efficiency of a property, helping Australians make more educated decisions on their next purchase or rental, or even improve the home they already live in.”

A survey of realestate.com.au users showed that 76% are concerned about the cost of electricity, and 79% are actively trying to conserve energy.

Energy Scores is available to signed-in users across realestate.com.au’s website.  To watch a short video on Energy Scores please click here
