International strength: REINSW launches International Chapter

22 September 2014

REINSW members participate in markets beyond our traditional geographical areas of expertise and as NSW continues to grow in popularity for foreign buyers, the REINSW International Chapter was launched to facilitate these new needs.REINSW CEO Tim McKibbin said the International Chapter assists members tackling issues of servicing the international market.

“In recognition of the global economy that we now live in, and our members’ desire to undertake business internationally, REINSW has launched the International Chapter,” Mr McKibbin said.

“There are many legal and cultural differences that we face as we traverse various overseas markets, and to create a system that recognises these as well as one that participants can have confidence in will, of course, take time.”

Mr McKibbin said now that the Inquiry into Foreign Investment in Residential Real Estate is on the government’s agenda, it is important for REINSW to ensure the state is not discouraging foreign investment.

“It is vital in this global age for us all to think beyond our own backyards. With the appropriate protocols, support and procedures in place this is something members can explore efficiently and confidently,” he said.

The newly appointed International Chapter Chair and Henson Properties Owner Ray Chan brings a wealth of experience in the local market as well as assisting clients from foreign shores with their property requirements.

Joining Mr Chan on the Chapter Committee is Colliers Director of Asian Division Steam Leung, Knight Frank Senior Director of Asian Markets and Commercial Sales Dominic Ong, TGC Director of Asian Division William Shen, ANC Real Estate Managing Director Vincent Wong, Century 21 Cronulla Managing Director and REINSW Director Gary Adamson, ‎CBRE Director of Asia Pacific Gavin Lloyd, LJ Hooker Head of International Bill Russell, McGrath China Desk Davey Hong and REINSW President Malcolm Gunning.

Some preliminary goals the Chapter are working toward include:

  • Engaging the relationships that REINSW has with the State and Federal Government to lobby for improved processes.

  • Creating a platform for REINSW members to learn about international markets including Australia’s requirements and policies for overseas buyers when purchasing property.
