The NSW Government has confirmed that from 2 March 2026, landlords and agents will be required to allow tenants to pay rent using Centrepay, if the tenant chooses to do so.
This change has been reflected on NSW Fair Trading’s website, including updates to guidance on rent payments and recent rental law reforms.
What this means for agents and landlords
At this stage, there is no immediate action required. Key points to be aware of include:
- Registration with Centrepay is only required if a tenant elects to pay rent this way.
- NSW Fair Trading is expected to release detailed guidance in early 2026, including information on registration timeframes and processes.
