Why is training needed
All licensees in charge are responsible for identifying, providing, and ensuring that staff undergo training to address safety concerns related to activities that may put workers at risk. This course will assist licensees in charge in meeting compliance requirements as outlined in Section 19 of the Work, Health and Safety ACT 2011.
Real estate agents can be more susceptible to threatening behaviours from colleagues, management, clients, and external stakeholders compared to the other staff members who do not work on the frontline. However, all staff members are potentially exposed to, and are at risk of, being confronted with violent or aggressive behaviour on a daily basis, due to the highly unpredictable nature of human behaviours, especially in the workplace setting, where tensions are high and stress levels are escalated. This aggressive behaviour from other individuals is often undetectable by those who are inexperienced in physical safety training.
It is important that all staff members possess the skills to manage threatening behaviours and minimise the risk of them escalating into a crisis situation to avoid negatively affecting their psychological safety. If staff do not have solid psychological safety at work, they cannot focus on the task at hand, work effectively, they make more mistakes, be less engaged, less productive and be too afraid to speak up or take risks in fear of repercussions, thereby stifling innovation and motivation. Moreso, staff members would find it difficult to bring their full selves to work.
Training in these strategic skills includes scenario-based training as this allows staff to experience firsthand how to respond effectively if fear or anxiety arises. This training reinforces staff’s psychological safety as they now have the skills and confidence to feel physically safe at work. It is not a martial arts program nor is it a human resource psychological training program, it is a program that gives strategies in physical intervention and psychological safety training.

The psychological safety training is delivered through the theoretical component of the program and the physical safety training is delivered through the practical component of the program.

This course is an in-class face-to-face course at REINSW House. It starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm with an hour lunch break being a total of 6 hours.
