REINSW Industry Summit to highlight consumer issues

21 November 2014

Real estate’s thought leaders will gather together to discuss areas of major concern to consumers at the 2014 REINSW Industry Summit.

In its second year, the summit will examine the dire state of education of real estate professionals in NSW and how this can be improved.

REINSW Deputy President John Cunningham said the event would see the best and brightest minds in real estate gather to look at the direction of the industry.

“By bringing together our thought leaders, we plan to review the most important issues facing consumers today. Our members are involved in one of the most important transactions in a person’s life and by discussing the issues together we can provide better solutions for consumers.

“We recognise the major flaws of the industry as it stands today. There must be reforms to education standards, which are a huge blow to our reputation as a profession. Issues like underquoting and material fact won’t just go away. They must be dealt with by ensuring that those who practice real estate have received the best education possible. It isn’t enough to a minimal amount of training.

“We will discuss the way forward for this and the path we are taking with NSW Fair Trading.

“We will also look at the debate surrounding the major real estate portals and the duopoly of domain.com.au and realestate.com.au.

“The Industry Summit provides the best possible forum for our thought leaders and we look forward to some clear outcomes and improved relations between consumers and the real estate profession,” Mr Cunningham said.

The REINSW Industry Summit will take place on Thursday, 27 November 2014 at the Rydges World Square, 389 Pitt Street, Sydney.
