100 years strong

5 June 2023

This edition of the Real Estate Journal marks 100 years of publication for REINSW’s member magazine – a truly remarkable milestone. It’s a historic moment for the Institute and members alike, and we’re celebrating this very special birthday that’s been a century in the making.

It was in May 1923 that the first edition of the Real Estate Journal - then recognised as the "official organ of the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales" - rolled off the printing press. As members held this first edition in their hands, they could not have imagined that the Journal would still exist a century later or that it would become one of the oldest and most-read member magazines in Australia.

Changing times have hit magazine publishing hard, so for the Journal to remain in print for 100 years is certainly a remarkable achievement.

Over its history, the Journal has become a community in print, keeping you informed about issues impacting the real estate industry, while also acting as a source of inspiration and motivation for you to strive to achieve more in your business and career. It’s also a record of the progress we’ve made since the earliest days of efforts to professionalise and regulate the industry.

I, like so many members, always take great pleasure in reading each edition of the Journal. Whether I'm reading the hardcopy that lands on my desk or the digital version on my computer or tablet, the pages always reveal something new and interesting – and, importantly, I always learn something essential to apply to my professional life.

Whether telling your stories or lobbying for essential change, the Journal has always remained true to its original aim to improve REINSW’s practical relevance to real estate agents and provide members with the information they need to operate as professionals.

Times have changed and the way we communicate is so very different than it was a century ago. But, in an ever-changing world, our Journal has remained a constant and has guided our members through complex periods of change.

To everyone at REINSW who contributes to the Journal today and those prior to them, thank you for putting together such an wonderful publication. And to our members, who keep the pages of this magazine alive with their contributions and continuing readership, thank you for your ongoing support.

We are all part of the Journal’s journey. Here’s to another 100 years!

Peter Matthews
