In case you missed it, REINSW Training Manager Aaron Barber introduced two new CPD courses earlier this year that have
been developed to meet the learning needs of agents – Presenting at NCAT and Fire Regulations with a Commercial
Property. Find out more…
Presenting at NCAT
The NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal is one of the main forums for resolving property management related
disputes, so attending NCAT is part and parcel of being a property manager. But it can be intimidating. That’s
why it’s important to know the basics about NCAT, and how it operates and what you can do to best prepare
yourself for a hearing.
“Presenting at NCAT can be challenging and, for many property managers, quite daunting,” Aaron said.
“That’s why we’ve developed a CPD course that will arm property managers with the knowledge and
skills they need to prepare and present their case.
“We want to give you the tools you need to achieve a positive outcome.”
The Presenting at NCAT course covers the following areas:
- NCAT legislation
- General responsibilities of NCAT Members
- NCAT powers and authority
- Record keeping requirements
- Steps to take prior to making an application
- How to prepare an application
- Documentation required
- Enforcement of NCAT orders
- Appeals
“This CPD course is a must for all property managers,” Aaron said. “Whether you’re just
starting out as a property manager or have attended NCAT many times, this CPD course will undoubtedly give you the
essential tools to help with your next Tribunal appearance.”

Fire Regulations with a Commercial Property
A fire in a commercial premises can be devastating, so the importance of fire safety cannot be overstated.
“It’s essential for agents to be aware of the issues relating to fire prevention and risk reduction in
commercial properties,” Aaron said. “We’ve put this important course together to train commercial
agents about the requirements of fire safety regulations.
“Whether it’s the installation of fire safety measures, understanding the latest legislation or ensuring
all the relevant documentation is in place, this course will equip you with the knowledge you need.”
The Fire Regulations with a Commercial Property course cover the following areas:
- Roles and responsibilities of landlords and tenants
- How to prevent, detect and suppress fire to protect life and property
- Maintaining fire safety measures
- Local Council and Fire and Rescue NSW requirements
- Fire safety schedules, certificates and statements
“Importantly, even though this course has been written with commercial properties in mind, the content is
applicable to strata buildings, due to the nature of the classification of the building and the need for fire
regulations to protect life and property,” Aaron said.
