REINSW PRESIDENT STEVE MARTIN
Steve Martin was elected as President of the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales on 28 November 2007. He has been a member of the Institute for 20 years and has served on the REINSW Board of Directors for nine years.

Steve is the licensee-in-charge of Colliers International (Albury Wodonga). As an agent who works in a regional area for a firm with international affiliations requiring frequent travel to Sydney, Steve has the benefit of understanding both the regional and metropolitan real estate markets in New South Wales.

During his two-year term as President, he plans to combine the Institute's traditional strengths with fresh, new ways of thinking. "I want to see a situation whereby any real estate agent working in New South Wales has to be a member, because not to be would be such a disadvantage," he said.

Steve discussed his plans in the February 2008 edition of the Real Estate Journal. Click here to read the article.

Hot topics

Steve has lots of plans for REINSW, but his pet projects can be grouped into three main themes - relevance, re-engagement and the right image.

Relevance
It's important that REINSW understands and meets the needs of the next wave of real estate agents and property owners - the Generations X and Y. A keen familiarity with technology, for example, means that these generations see and do things differently. REINSW is looking at a variety of ways to make it easier for them to operate in the ways they are familiar with.

Re-engagement
Our members are our lifeblood. Because of this, REINSW must be constantly alert to ways of improving what's on offer. As a starting point, the Institute is taking a look at Chapters and Divisions. Two new Chapters have been established to reflect some changes in the industry - the Young Agents Chapter and the Holiday and Short Term Rentals Chapter. And this is just the beginning!

Right image
The old saying 'perception is reality' could not be more true. REINSW needs to look the part. This starts with what members and the public see when they come through our front door. Expect to see some changes very soon - starting with a new look at the REINSW Corporate Learning Centre.
