All new entrants to the real estate industry, who intend on performing any of the functions of a real estate agent, must hold a Certificate of Registration issued by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). |

When applying for a Certificate of Registration, the OFT requires a statement of attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) stating that the applicant has successfully completed the relevant Course in Property Practice.

The REINSW Course in Property Practice is designed to equip you with everything you need to start a successful career in the real estate industry.
There are no formal prerequisites to undertaking the REINSW Course in Property Practice. However the Property, Stock and Business Agents Act states that:
"A person is eligible to hold a certificate of registration only if the Director-General is satisfied that the person:
(a) is an individual who is at least 16 years of age, and
(b) is a fit and proper person to hold a certificate of registration, and
(c) has the qualifications required for the issue of a certificate of registration of the type concerned, and
(d) is not a disqualified person."
The REINSW Course in Property Practice comprises the following four nationally accredited units of competency:
- CPPDSM4080A - Work in the real estate industry
- CPPDSM3019A - Communicate with clients as part of agency obligations
- CPPDSM4007A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
- CPPDSM4008A - Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work

The REINSW Course in Property Practice takes approximately 50 hours to complete. If you have prior experience or have undertaken related training, you may be able to complete the course in a shorter period of time.
REINSW delivers this course in a variety of ways:
- Full time: 5 consecutive week days of face-to-face training, plus approximately 10 hours of project work
- Part time: 5 consecutive Saturdays of face-to-face training, plus approximately 10 hours of project work
- eLearning: online materials (internet access and intermediate computer knowledge required)
- Correspondence: paper-based materials (posted to nominated address)
- Personal training plan: combination of face-to-face training, correspondence and eLearning tailored to your needs
Full-time and part-time courses are conducted at REINSW at 30-32 Wentworth Avenue, Sydney (see map).
There is a parking station on the corner of Castlereigh and Goulburn Streets.
If you are travelling by train, REINSW is approximately a 10 minute walk from Central Station.

Correspondence learning is a flexible alternative that allows you to complete your REINSW Course in Property Practice at any time and at any place. Course materials will be posted to you. Once you have completed your assessments, just post them back to us.
Correspondence learning assessment is conducted using a combination of, but is not limited to, the following methods: online quizzes and questions; written assessment; third-party observations; video evidence; case studies; and multiple-choice tests.
In order to provide you with the most satisfying and successful educational experience, the REINSW Course in Property Practice incorporates a number of delivery modes. Verbal presentations, participation in experiential activities and case studies, role playing and situational simulations, and written scenarios and workbook activities are all designed to integrate theory and practice.
Assessment tasks are aimed at confirming your ability to apply acquired knowledge to the workplace, and will include written questions, role plays, case studies and problem solving activities, and an assignment that consists of a major project.
