NABERS for apartments launching in June 2018

16 March 2018

The new National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) for Apartment Buildings tool will launch in June 2018, expanding the scheme from commercial buildings.

NABERS, which indicates how energy and water efficient a building’s common area is, has helped thousands of buildings save more than $350 million in energy bills since 2010.

Investing in a rating gives a representation of how building’s common areas perform with a simple six-star rating scale where three is average and six is market leading.

This information can help strata managing agents, owners corporations, apartment owners, investors, residents, and building managers understand the performance of the building and discuss potential improvements.

How do you get a rating?

To become involved you need to sign-up to become a NABERS Accredited Assessor by meeting these prerequisites.

If you do you’ll be eligible to attend two NABERS courses in Sydney which, if you complete them, enable you to become accredited to perform NABERS for Apartment Buildings ratings.

The courses are currently being offered for $1,619*, discounted from $3,468 thanks to the City of Sydney.

The NABERS Core Course costs $1,619 and is being held in Sydney on 4 June 2018, followed by the Apartment Buildings Course in Sydney on 6 June 2018 which is free if you use the discount code 6Stars.

Next you need to complete the NABERS Essentials online training ($81) on NABERS Learn.

After completing these courses and passing the exam, you’ll need to pay an annual accreditation fee of $710 and make sure that your organisation meets the insurance requirements listed in the NABERS Company Contract.

*Places are limited. Subsidy applies for the May/June courses only. All subsequent training will be charged at full price.
