We need a dedicated Property Services Commissioner for NSW: Help us to help you now!

31 May 2021

There are more than 50,000 real estate professionals and agency services staff across NSW. The Industry serves the interests of over two million people with their property transactions annually. No other Industry can match the social and economic importance of the property industry.

Change is long overdue

For the past 10 years, REINSW has relentlessly lobbied Government to remove our Industry from NSW Fair Trading and establish a dedicated Property Services Commissioner instead.

Today we’re excited to let you know that a Bill to establish a dedicated and Industry-experienced “Commissioner for Property Services” has passed the Upper House of Parliament, Property Services Council Bill 2021. If it can pass the Lower House on 10 June 2021, we say goodbye to NSW Fair Trading.

Unfortunately, the NSW Government has said that it will block the Bill in the Lower House but won't say why!

“What we do know is that when Industry wants to improve itself, Government should assist not resist!” - Tim McKibbin, REINSW CEO

NSW Fair Trading’s lack of industry knowledge adds to the cost of property transactions and fails to protect consumers and support Industry. A Property Services Commissioner, with industry knowledge and experience - who will work cooperatively and constructively with industry - will help all of us, most importantly, the Consumer.
