Working as a bid spotter for Magic Millions, the thoroughbred auction house, whilst completing his university studies led Bryce Bevan to get hooked on auctioneering.
In 2014, Bryce graduated with an honours double degree from the University of Western Australia in Agricultural Science and Commerce. He was then selected as one of twelve individuals worldwide for the prestigious Darley Flying Start, a two-year postgraduate scholarship program where he was sponsored to study and work in five of the biggest global horse racing hubs, witnessing thoroughbred auctions all over the world.
Now based in Sydney, Bryce works full time as one of five auctioneers at Australia’s leading thoroughbred auction house, Inglis, transacting over $200 million of stock annually.
With so much auctioneering experience under his belt, real estate was a natural progression for Bryce.
In 2019, Bryce decided to compete in the REINSW Novice Auctioneer Competition (NAC) and won the State Final in July.
“The competition has been a springboard for so many successful auctioneers who have gone on to bigger and better things, so I was determined to give it my best shot,” says Bryce.
So determined to succeed, Bryce competed in no less than three NAC heats, finally winning his last heat in Wollongong before securing a place in the State Final.
His early performances played a pivotal role in his eventual win.
“Following each heat, the judges were very generous with their feedback and gave me something different to work on each time, so when the State Final came around all the pieces of the puzzle came together.”
Bryce continues to work at Inglis whilst also now working for AuctionWORKS conducting Saturday auctions across Sydney and prospecting in his spare time.
“During the competition, I met Jesse Davidson from AuctionWORKS who I shadowed on a couple of Saturdays and met up with for training in the lead up to the State Final.”
“He was very generous with his time and since winning the competition, I have joined AuctionWORKS and am now continuing my professional development with Jesse and his team.”
NAC heats are being held in Sydney (6 March and 8 May), Newcastle (2 April) and Wollongong (19 May) with the final scheduled for 18 June in Sydney.
