Why RealtyProtect hits home for distributors like Aaron

27 February 2020

As our RealtyProtect family grows, let’s be inspired and succeed together. We’re proud to share the stories of our distributors who are using the RealtyProtect product to build on their reputation for client service.

Meet Aaron Tao, a RealtyProtect distributor and property manager from Gerard Partners. He’s been in the real estate industry for 12 years. Hear how he uses the RealtyProtect product to tell his own story and values.

More than insurance

Aaron says: “Every second tenant asks me if the home is pet friendly. It gets repetitive doesn’t it? The reality is that sometimes this is the difference between finding a tenant and leaving a home vacant. Thanks to RealtyProtect’s cover for pet damage, landlords are now expanding their appetite to accept pets in their homes, which also helps property managers.”

Insurance from a landlord perspective

Aaron says: “We’re in the business of people. Trust is everything. In my experience, landlords often only appreciate insurance when something has already happened. When it does, all fingers point to me, even though I have no control over the situation! Earlier on in my career, it was judgement day; a claim was settled for one of my landlord clients just after we connected them with a landlord insurance policy. Talk about good timing. If my client didn’t take out landlord insurance, they said they could have been up for approx. $40k worth of losses.

At RealtyProtect, we are confident that we have a product that was designed with landlords in mind.

It’s about mindset

Aaron says: “Change the way you look at landlord insurance. When talking to my peers in the property management industry, I think they might have a different approach when it comes to landlord insurance. For me, it’s about making my clients aware of insurance that may provide cover when a rental nightmare occurs.”

Have the conversation

Aaron says: “These days, some landlords want to set and forget when it comes to property management. I’ve often received instructions from my landlord clients to not contact them and use common sense when it comes to decision-making. Sound familiar?

This trust is only established when landlords know I have their best interest at heart and when I treat their property like my own. Introducing them to the options of insurance they can pursue is part of my relationship with my clients.

More than insurance

Aaron says: “Every second tenant asks me if the home is pet friendly. It gets repetitive doesn’t it? The reality is that sometimes this is the difference between finding a tenant and leaving a home vacant. Thanks to RealtyProtect’s cover for pet damage, landlords are now expanding their appetite to accept pets in their homes, which also helps property managers.

At RealtyProtect, we provide up to $10,000 cover (limits, an excess and exclusions apply*) for pet damage as we understand the importance that pets play in our clients’ lives.

Aaron says: “Recently, a lady was the sole lease holder for her property. She had filed for an apprehended domestic violence order and left the property. The husband stayed and caused her grief by not paying rent and not leaving the property. Thankfully the situation resolved itself peacefully.

At RealtyProtect, we’ve worked hard to ensure our policy has a benefit in place to provide landlords cover in a situation where a claim arises from domestic violence, hardship or failure to vacate a premise. RealtyProtect provides up to 20 weeks’ loss of rent following tenant hardship (limits, an excess and exclusions apply*).

A platform for change

Aaron says: “The bushfires have had a devastating impact on both lives and properties across NSW. As a distributor of RealtyProtect, I’m proud to be able to help the Salvation Army whilst they’re on-the-ground helping those who have tragically lost their houses in the fires. Remember, $5 from every policy sold is donated to the Salvation Army.
