On television these days, you'll regularly see shows about a couple renovating a home.
Careful editing will show the different emotions the pair go through working together for the first time. Ultimately, they end up with a fantastic looking property and the credits roll while they drink wine on their gorgeous new decking.
That’s television!
The reality of it is, unless one or both of you have building skills and a never-ending flow of cash, renovating may end in disaster and that will not bring you closer together as a couple.
You can tear up a lot of money on a renovation project, so unless you have the skills to do it, pass it onto a building team with a good project manager.
Renovating is complex. If you still want to go ahead with your dream reno, figure out what you can afford, set a strict budget and learn how to compromise!
