Stepping up

6 December 2021

Do you want to take the next step in your career and become a Licensee in charge? If so, then you need to complete the Diploma of Property (Agency Management) course.

The commencement of sweeping industry reforms on 23 March 2020 saw the introduction of a new licence category – the Class 1 Real Estate Licence.

“To apply to NSW Fair Trading for a Class 1 Real Estate Licence, agents need to not only demonstrate that they have two years’ experience in the real estate industry, they also need to complete the Diploma of Property (Agency Management) qualification,” Shula Kentwell, REINSW Head of Training, explained.

“The course comprises 12 units of competency that are focused on various aspects of business management, including financial management, workplace management, ethics, compliance, work health and safety, and more.”

Agents can conveniently complete the units and their assessments online. Shula explained that Recognition of Prior Learning is also an option.

“By documenting your skills and knowledge and providing evidence of the experience you’ve gained throughout your career, you can potentially reduce the amount of training you need to undertake to gain your Class 1 Real Estate Licence,” she said.

Shula encouraged agents to enrol in the course.

“It’s not just for those who want to open their own agency,” she said. “If you want to step up and take on more responsibility at the agency where you work, this course is a great choice. You’re not only building your knowledge; you’re also demonstrating a commitment to taking on a leadership role.”
