Avoiding auction disasters

Recorded 20 September 2016

Imagine having access to three of Australia’s best auctioneers for an hour, sharing with you the secrets of how to avoid some of the most common and difficult auction situations?

Imagine no longer – you’ve got it!

This webinar features a panel of two of Australia’s top auctioneers: Damien Cooley and Jesse Davidson.

They will talk about their own personal experiences and strategies for dealing with issues at auctions:

  • Agent issues (not handling inquiry correctly)
  • Questions at auctions and how to handle them
  • Increments and how to avoid people demanding smaller increments
  • Incomplete contracts
  • Difficult situations

If you’re an auctioneer, a selling agent, or a buyers’ agent, you won’t want to miss this one!

Meet the Presenters

Damien Cooley started his career in auctioneering by entering and winning the REINSW’s Novice Auctioneering Competition in 2000. Recognising his passion, he then went on to start Cooley Auctions in 2003 with the mission to put together the best auctioneering team in Australia.

Damien has been recognised numerous times in his career including:

  • 2007 Australian Property Institute’s Young Achiever of the Year Award in 2007
  • 2008 and 2010 REINSW Awards for Excellence in Auctioneering
  • 2013 REINSW Award for Excellence – John Greig OAM Community Service
  • 2013 and 2015 Real Estate Business Awards Auctioneer of the Year

Damien’s experience extends to reality television where he has performed the winning auction on The Block five times and is the most booked auctioneer on the show making his eighth appearance in 2015. He has also performed auctions on other reality TV series including The Renovators, Under the Hammer, Hot Auctions and Selling Houses Australia.

Jesse Davidson is a senior auctioneer with auctionWORKS. Upon completing his Bachelor in Business early in 2009, Jesse accepted a position with auctionWORKS. Soon after Jesse entered and won the REINSW’s Novice Auctioneering Competition in 2010.

More recently he won the 2015 REINSW Awards for Excellence in Auctioneering and a current finalist in the 2016 championship, with the winner to be announced in October.

Jesse was also part of the NSW winning team in the recently-held State of Origin Auctioneering Competition, beating Queensland. (Perhaps he should also take up rugby!)

Jesse is the current Chairperson of the REINSW’s Auctioneers Chapter committee.
