New era for Sydney's iconic Sirius building

18 December 2017

Sydney’s iconic Sirius building, which boasts significant harbour and city views for the majority its apartments, is officially on the market.

Savills, on behalf of the NSW Government, will commence the divestment, with funds raised to be used to invest in new social housing across NSW.

Located on a 3,647-square metre site, the Sirius building comprises 11 storeys, 79 units, and over 70 basement car spaces.

The rooftop offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the harbour, Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Circular Quay, city skyscrapers, and expansive views towards Barangaroo, Milsons Point, North Sydney, Pyrmont and Balmain.

It will be listed via an international sales campaign with the opportunity for a variety of uses via the flexible zoning applicable to the site.

Simon Fenn, Managing Director of Savills NSW said: “Sirius is positioned on some of the most valuable land in Australia and will certainly attract interest from around the globe, with a once in a lifetime opportunity to revitalise this prime site with a range of potential future scenarios including residential, commercial, hotel and retail or a mix of these.

“Never before has a building with such unobstructed and striking harbour views within the heart of Sydney been offered to the market. A proposal like this is certainly one in a million.”

Minister for Planning Anthony Roberts said: “The maximum height of any building would be restricted to the height of the Sydney Harbour Bridge deck.

“This height restriction will ensure any building approved on the site fits in with the character of the surrounding buildings.

“Any building proposed for the site would need to meet design excellence standards for its architectural, urban and landscape plans so that we can ensure we are creating a great place that fits well with the surrounding area.”

A Registration of Interest process is now open, to be followed by a formal Expression of Interest stage leading to an Invitation to tender for selected applicants. The sale is expected to be finalised in the second half of 2018.

In addition the NSW Department of Planning and Environment has opened public consultation on its future use until 16 February 2018.
