In this free Member webinar, Michael Miller and Nicola Gorton from the Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner will discuss the key changes to the Retail Leases Act 1994 (NSW), which commenced on 1st July 2017 and will affect both landlords and tenants of retail premises.
This webinar will cover the key changes to the Retail Leases Act. These include:
- No minimum term
- Liability for outgoings
- Non-retail premises
- Consent to assignment
- Bank guarantee
- What information you need to provide to the tenant.
Meet the presenters
Michael Miller is a Manager and Leading Mediator within the dispute resolution unit at the Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner. Michael has a specialist focus on commercial matters and court procedure. Michael also heads the current project to deliver civil dispute resolution services to the commercial sector across regional NSW.
Nicola Gorton is Senior Mediation Officer, Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner. Nicola has been a case manager in the dispute resolution team since 2013, and is the specialist for government agency, and large organisation matters. Nicola also worked extensively on the recent Retail Leases Act review team, leading the legislative and parliamentary processes of the Amendment Act. Nicola also specialises in disputes in the motor industry and has developed an Expert Determination process for disputes under the Smash Repair Industry Code of Conduct.
