REINSW lobbies on behalf of holiday and short-term rentals sector
Released 17 February 2011

REINSW was recently invited by the Department of Planning to take part in an meeting of industry stakeholders concerning the future direction of the NSW planning policy concerning the holiday and short-term rentals sector.

In recent years the industry has come under persistent attack from a vocal minority of NSW councils and operators of other accommodation options in relation to the perceived affects of the industry on the residential amenity of properties in some areas.

REINSW has been consistently involved in training and lobbying in support of this sector. In particular, REINSW has supported the right of the market to self regulate, prior to the implementation of the heavy handed regulation being proposed by some opponents. In recent years, REINSW established the Holiday and Short Term Rentals Chapter of to assist REINSW’s lobbying efforts and to assist members operating in this area to protect their market.

REINSW also developed and released a set of industry Best Practice Guidelines and has assisted listing portals to do the same.

REINSW will now work with other industry groups and Tourism NSW to develop a comprehensive and uniform state wide self-regulatory system to address issues raise by Department of Planning.
