REINSW presents policy platform to NSW Opposition Leader
Released 25 November 2010

Yesterday, REINSW CEO Tim McKibbin met with the Leader of the NSW Liberals & Nationals, Mr Barry O’Farrell, to present REINSW’s policy platform ahead of the NSW election in March 2011.

"REINSW’s Real Policies seek to protect the interests of the property industry for the benefit of consumers and property professionals," Tim said.

"We look forward to working with Mr O’Farrell and members of the Shadow Ministry in the coming months to promote the interests of the property industry and those professionals that serve it."

REINSW’s Real Policies cover four key areas:

  • Real Agency argues the case for increasing the educational prerequisites for entry into the profession, reducing the mandatory requirements within the existing regulatory environment, and mandating professional indemnity insurance to manage risk.
  • Real Space seeks to address the critical shortage of housing stock in NSW through effective strategies to drive land release, government commitment to infrastructure investment, an overhaul of planning legislation and a comprehensive strategy to facilitate infill development.
  • Real Tax calls on government to reduce land tax and transfer duty rates, retain negative gearing for property investment, remove GST on residential property supplies, and allow income tax deductions for stamp duty on property investment.
  • Real Tenancy seeks amendment to the existing regulatory regime for residential tenancies in order to strike a balance between the legitimate interests of residential investors and the provision of proper safeguards for residential tenants.
