REINSW Certificate of Registration Course - Getting Started Essentials
The first step in your real estate career is to complete the Certificate of Registration Course – Getting Started Essentials. This course will give you the knowledge and skills you need to be confident, capable and successful in listing, selling, renting and managing property.
All new entrants to the real estate industry, who intend on performing any of the functions of a real estate agent, must hold a Certificate of Registration issued by NSW Fair Trading.
When applying for a Certificate of Registration, NSW Fair Trading requires a statement of attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) stating that the applicant has successfully completed the relevant entry certification course.
Once you have successfully completed the course, including the in and out of class assessments, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the four units you need to apply to NSW Fair Trading for your Certificate of Registration.
The REINSW Certificate of Registration Course comprises the following four nationally accredited units of competency:
- CPPDSM4080A – Work in the real estate industry
- CPPDSM3019B – Communicate with clients as part of agency operations
- CPPDSM4007A – Identify legal and ethical requirements of property management to complete agency work
- CPPDSM4008A – Identify legal and ethical requirements of property sales to complete agency work
RTO Provider Number: 90117
The REINSW Certificate of Registration Course is also available in non-real estate areas of practice (for example, stock and station, business broking and strata management). For more information, please call (02) 9264 2343 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are no formal prerequisites to undertaking the REINSW Certificate of Registration Course. However the Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 2002 states that:
"A person is eligible to hold a certificate of registration only if the Director-General is satisfied that the person:
(a) is an individual who is at least 16 years of age, and
(b) is a fit and proper person to hold a certificate of registration, and
(c) has the qualifications required for the issue of a certificate of registration of the type concerned, and
(d) is not a disqualified person."
The REINSW Certificate of Registration Course takes approximately 30 hours to complete. If you have prior experience or have undertaken related training, you may be able to complete the course in a shorter period of time.
In order to provide you with the most satisfying and successful educational experience, the REINSW Certificate of Registration Course incorporates a number of delivery modes. Verbal presentations, participation in experiential activities and case studies, role playing and situational simulations, and written scenarios and workbook activities are all designed to integrate theory and practice.

Your Certificate of Registration will be issued by NSW Fair Trading, not REINSW.
You must apply to NSW Fair Trading for your Certificate of Registration, and you can only do so once you have gained your Statement of Attainment from REINSW for the four units of learning you have completed as part of the REINSW Certificate of Registration Course.
It is important to note that you will not receive your Statement of Attainment immediately upon completing the Certificate of Registration Course (either via classroom or eLearning).
