Do you currently work in the real estate industry as a Certificate of Registration holder and want to gain the full licence - but don't want to undertake training in areas that you have experience in?

Then you should enrol in our Recognition of Prior Learning program. We have completely streamlined and updated our Recognition process to make it as easy, straightforward and affordable as possible.

In the Recognition program there are three stages to having your experience and eligibility confirmed to help you obtain your CPP40307 Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate).

If you cannot meet all of the requirements of the qualification via the Recognition program, you can undertake some additional training to complete the full Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate).

Then it’s a simple application to NSW Fair Trading and you’ve got your licence!

1. Self-assessment

This step is down to you. You need to tell us about your skills, knowledge and experience so that we can assess whether you are eligible in a particular Certificate IV unit of competency.

We’ve made this a streamlined process to make it as easy as possible for you. Once you’ve enrolled in the Recognition program and paid the $500 administration fee, you will receive access to the online self-assessment tool.

This tool will guide you through the steps to complete your self-assessment.

i. Multiple choice questions

There is a series of multiple choice questions where you can rate your level of experience and/or the frequency that you complete certain activities (eg how often are you actively involved in negotiation processes to complete a listing of a property for sale).

ii. Free text answers
We then ask you to provide more detailed information on the particular areas that you’ve got considerable or extensive experience in.

iii. Gather evidence
The tool then specifies the documents and scans to be uploaded that supports the experience noted in your answers. You will also complete the Evidence Kit document which gathers details of your current and recent work history, plus relevant contacts to help support your skills and experience.

2. REINSW review and recommendation

Now it’s our turn! An assessor will review your self-assessment information and contact your references.

They will then arrange a time and date to have a phone or face-to-face interview with you. The goal of this "competency conversation" is to confirm and deepen our understanding of your experience as it relates to the various Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) units.

After this, REINSW will advise you in writing of the outcome and our recommendation on how to move forward. The outcome could be one of the following:

i. Recognition for a full Certificate IV qualification
ii. Recognition for particular units within the Certificate IV.

If you are not able to be recognised for the full Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) qualification, we will advise you of the additional training that will need to be completed.

3.  Recognition

On payment of the $1,300 Recognition Fee you will be issued with the relevant credentials for the units you have achieved by Recognition.

If you need to complete any gap training, REINSW can provide that in a combination of distance and face-to-face formats:

  • If you only require one or two clusters of units to complete the requirements of the Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate), this is covered by the Recognition Fee. Our experience shows that this is often the maximum amount of extra training needed for an experienced agent.
  • If you require three clusters, you will be given a 50% discount on the full cost of the training.
  • If you require more than four clusters, we will transfer your recognition fee less the $150 administration fee to your training costs as this will likely be a cheaper priced option for you.
