RTA update: REINSW continues to fight for fair and equitable outcomes
30 August 2018
REINSW wants to assure its members that we continue to fight for fair and equitable outcomes for residential property managers, landlords and tenants in the review of the Residential Tenancies Act 2010 (NSW) (Act).

A long journey

In 2015, the NSW Government commenced the Statutory Review of the Act, which was last remade in 2010, along with the Regulation.

The NSW Government released a Discussion Paper in October 2015.

In June 2015, ahead of the release of the Discussion Paper, the REINSW Property Management Chapter Committee formed a dedicated Sub-Committee to review areas of the legislation that required change and respond to the NSW Government’s recommendations and forthcoming draft Bills.

Since then, the Sub-Committee has held 35 meetings. REINSW CEO Tim McKibbin and Sub-Committee members have attended roundtable discussions with NSW Fair Trading and REINSW has lodged eight submissions, six of which have responded to the various draft Bills.

REINSW would like to publish more information on this issue. However, because of the convention concerning Cabinet confidentiality – which REINSW must comply with – we cannot comment on our submissions or responses to the various draft Bills.

What’s next

As the peak industry body for real estate, REINSW represents its members on matters that affect them.

We will continue to liaise with NSW Fair Trading and update you on the progress of the Bill.
