REA donates $10,000 to Hugh Bateman

15 February 2017

REINSW member and Mudgee agent Hugh Bateman received a cheque of $10,000 from the REA Group at REINSW headquarters recently, which he has given to the McGrath Foundation.

The donation was as a result of Hugh, Director of the Property Shop, winning the annual REA Excellence Awards last October in the Contribution to Community award.

Hugh received the award for his efforts in raising $380,000 from his Pink Tractor Trek in late 2015 for the McGrath Foundation charity.

The Pink Tractor Trek saw Hugh travel 2,900km across NSW on a pink tractor, and exceeded his fundraising goal by over $130,000.

Since then Hugh helped to organise Pink Up Mudgee in October 2016 which saw 280 businesses turn pink and help raise a further $140,000 for the McGrath Foundation.

Hugh said: “Our philosophy at the Property Shop has always been to put back into the community because you can’t always keep taking.

“Over the past 13 months we have helped raise $520,000 for the McGrath Foundation and the experience has been very humbling.

“We have received so much support from our agent friends and the community, and the money will help make a big difference to the lives of those who suffer from breast cancer.

“When the McGrath Foundation started out it only had four breast care nurses and it now has 117.

“They do a wonderful job not only from the physical side, but also the psychological side and to have their help is just amazing.”

What does the McGrath Foundation do?

McGrath Breast Care Nurses help individuals (and their families) experiencing breast cancer by providing physical, psychological and emotional support.

The McGrath Foundation funds 117 McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities right across Australia, mostly in regional and rural areas where such treatment may be hard to find.

It has supported more than 50,000 families have been supported since 2005. Find out more information at www.mcgrathfoundation.com.au
