Saving money on building and pest reports

Currently any prospective buyer must pay to get a pre-purchase pest and building inspection report completed on a property they are interested in buying, even though other buyers will have already had the same reports done.

This is inefficient and expensive.

The NSW Government has recently legislated that a real estate agents must keep a log of any property inspection reports completed on a property. A prospective buyer can then approach the report’s authors to purchase a copy of the report for a discounted price.

Despite the benefit purchasers gain from this initiative we believe that a far more efficient means to achieve this outcome would be a mandatory requirement for a pest and building report be included as part of the contract. This is the current requirement in the A.C.T. and works very well.
