There's never been a better time to buy, but act fast

Released 17 November 2008

Falling interest rates and new first home buyer benefits mean there's never been a better time to buy real estate in New South Wales.

‘There is some silver lining to the dark cloud of the economic crisis with even lower interest rates on the way making housing more affordable,” said REINSW President Steve Martin.

"Cheaper costs of borrowing combined with a doubling of the standard first home buyers’ grant means it is easier than ever before to get into the real estate market.

"These factors combined with the fact that more property is now coming onto the market means astute buyers have plenty to gain and nothing to lose from buying now.

"For first home buyers the message is even clearer – what is on offer now in terms of grants and assistance means the time will never be better for taking that first plunge into home ownership.

"For those looking at a new apartment or house, the new first home buyers' grant is now $21,000 (plus an additional $3,000 announced in last week's mini budget) which is a massive saving.

"Even the $14,000 first home buyers’ grant is a significant step forward for the first time home owner.

"But these benefits won’t last for ever and will only apply until the 30th June 2009.

"REINSW is perfectly placed to help all home buyers, especially first timers.

"The REINSW website has a wealth of information for those dipping their toes into the property market for the first time, including advice on how to find an REINSW agent, who you need to talk to about the first home buyers’ grants and how to avoid property pitfalls.

"As a person who has been involved in real estate for many years, the present circumstances are an excellent opportunity for people to get into the market," said Mr Martin.
