Rowen Kelly Awarded the Greatest Accolade in the NSW Real Estate Industry

Released 22 October 2006

Real Estate Institute of NSW President, Mrs Cristine Castle, last night awarded Immediate Past President of the Institute, Mr Rowen Kelly, with the Woodrow Weight Award for outstanding contribution to real estate agency practice.

"The Woodrow Weight Award is the highest honour bestowed in the State’s real estate industry and it could not have been awarded to a more worthy person – Mr Rowen Kelly.”

Mr Kelly is Managing Director of one of Sydney’s leading real estate firms, Kelly & Sons Real Estate.

He joined the Real Estate Institute of NSW in 1972 and proved to be a tireless contributor to a number of industry specialist committees and joined the Institute’s Board as a committed and energetic Director in 1985.

He was made Vice President in 1997 and held that position until he was elected President of the Institute in 2003.

Serving his two year term during one of the most turbulent periods in the State’s real estate industry, Mr Kelly became publicly prominent as an articulate and passionate advocate for the abolition of the NSW Government’s contentious Vendor Duty tax and he was instrumental in having the Land Tax threshold reinstated.

Mr Kelly continues to play an active role in real estate as a Director of RealCover Insurance and as Immediate Past President of the Institute.

Rowen Kelly accepts the Woodrow Weight Award from REINSW President, Mrs Cristine Castle.

“Woodrow Weight OBE was a legend in the real estate industry who befriended and encouraged generations of agents and showed leadership in his lifelong dedication to the betterment of our industry,” Mrs Castle said.

“As a Woodrow Weight Award winner myself, it is my great pleasure to bestow this year’s award to Mr Rowen Kelly.”
