Rental vacancies start the year lower on the state's Mid North Coast
The latest figures for January 2009 show a rental vacancy rate of 1.8% which is down 0.2 percent compared to December 2008.
This is the lowest rental vacancy rate of any of the rural areas surveyed by the REINSW.
“Unfortunately there has been a deterioration in the rental picture on the state’s Mind North Coast at the start of 2009,” said REINSW President Steve Martin.
“1.8% is the lowest vacancy rate we’ve seen on the Mind North Coast since February 2008.
“Although we saw some slight increases in rental vacancies at the end of 2008, the Mid North Coast has dropped back and now has the lowest vacancy rate of any of the rural and regional areas surveyed by the REINSW.
“Despite interest rates being at historic lows, we have seen the Mid North Coast lose virtually all gains made last year.
“This is despite an almost perfect property investment environment with low interest rates.
“Hopefully we will see a greater return to rental availability over the coming months,” said Mr Martin.
