Rental vacancies start the year lower in the state's Central West
The latest figures for January 2009 were the lowest recorded in the area since August 2008, falling 1.1% to 2.5%
“Unfortunately there has been no improvement in the rental picture in the Central West at the start of 2009,” said REINSW President Steve Martin.
“For January the available rental vacancy rate fell to 2.5% which means the market has contracted considerably.
“Despite the Central West showing the highest rental vacancy of all surveyed regional areas at the end of 2008 it now joins other areas where vacancies have fallen below 3 % including:
- Albury – 2.7%
- Riverina – 2.6%
- Coffs Harbour – 2.5%
“Despite interest rates being at historic lows, we have the Central West lose virtually all gains made last year.
“This is despite an almost perfect property investment environment with low interest rates.
“Hopefully we will see a return to greater rental availability over the coming months,” said Mr Martin.
