Rental vacancies start the year higher on the Northern Rivers
The latest figures for January 2009 show a rental vacancy rate of 2.3% which is up a significant half a percent compared to December 2008.
“The Northern Rovers has started the year very positively with a 0.5% increase”, said REINSW President Steve Martin.
“2.3% is the highest vacancy rate we’ve seen in the Northern Rovers District since October 2008.
“Northern Rovers is only one of a few regional areas to show an increase in rental availability.
“The area is now comparable to the following regional centres:
- New England – 2.4%
- Central West – 2.5%
- Coffs Harbour – 2.5%
“The Northern Rivers has begun 2009 on a positive note and perhaps we are starting to see the beginning of the effects of a low interest rate environment.
“Hopefully we will continue to see even greater improvements in rental availability over the coming months,” said Mr Martin.
