Rental vacancies fall in the Riverina at the start of 2009
The latest figures for January 2009 showed a 0.5% fall in the percentage of available rental properties, down to 2.6%
“Unfortunately there has a deterioration in the rental picture in the Riverina at the start of 2009,” said REINSW President Steve Martin.
“2.6% is the lowest vacancy rate we’ve seen in the area since October 2008 and is a sharp fall compared to the December figures.
“The Riverina now joins other regional areas where rental vacancies have fallen below 3% including:
- Albury – 2.7%
- Riverina – 2.6%
- Central West – 2.5%
“Despite interest rates being at historic lows, we have seen the Riverina lose a significant proportion of the gains recorded in late 2008.
“This is despite an almost perfect property investment environment with low interest rates.
“Hopefully we will see a return to greater rental availability over the coming months,” said Mr Martin.
