Rental vacancies drop on the South Coast

Released 26 June 2009

The percentage of rental vacancies on the state’s South Coast has fallen, according to data released today by REINSW.

“Despite the fall, the latest figures are still good news as they show a vacancy rate still above 3%,” said REINSW President Steve Martin.

“The optimum vacancy rate for any area is between 3 and 4 percent so the South Coast is continuing to perform well, especially when compared to other parts of the state.

In May 2009, the percentage of available rental properties fell by 0.2% to 3.5%.

“Clearly the very low interest rate environment and the additional incentives for first home buyers are having a positive effect,” said Mr Martin.
