Each year the REINSW Novice Auctioneers Competition sees some of NSW’s up-and-coming auctioneers battling it out on stage. The competition gives entrants a chance to try their hand at auctioneering, without the pressure of having to sell a real property.
In the first instance, entrants nominate to compete in a local REINSW Divisional Novice Auctioneers Competition. The only entry requirements for these Divisional competitions are that the entrant is over 16, lives in NSW, and has not completed more than 10 auctions or has no more than six months experience as a livestock or chattel auctioneer.
Entrants need to source an item that they will auction on the night of the competition, in front of agents, members of the public and judges. This item can be anything - such as a bottle of wine, sports memorabilia, or a weekend away.
The winner is not determined by the amount of money raised, but rather their ability to auction the item with confidence and poise, as well as how well the item is described, control of bidding and use of gavel. Proceeds from the sale of these items are donated to local charities.
Finalists in the Divisional competitions will be able to compete in the REINSW State Final in Sydney and vie for the title of State Champion.
Entrants in the State Final once again are required to source an item to auction. Proceeds from the State Final are donated to REINSW’s charity of choice - the St Vincent de Paul Society.
Before the State Final, competitors also have the opportunity to attend a free REINSW auctioneering training session, to polish their skills before the big night.
Several of today’s well-known auctioneers began their careers by competing in their local Division’s Novice Auctioneers Competition!
