Conveyancing protocol
A new residential conveyancing protocol designed to promote efficiency and reduce the stress for consumers when buying or selling property will be launched today by the Law Society New South Wales and the Real Estate Institute of New South Wales (REINSW).
The five-page document is a practical guide to help solicitors and agents follow the best procedures during all stages of the process for exchanging contracts on a property.
Law Society President Ms June McPhie said members of the public would benefit from greater cooperation between solicitors and real estate agents.
“This joint initiative of the Law Society and the Real Estate Institute recognises that solicitors and real estate agents need to work together to ensure the conveyancing process runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible for the consumer,” Ms McPhie said.
“The protocol clearly sets out each participant’s responsibility in the transaction process, with less scope for a misunderstanding to occur.”
REINSW President Mrs Cristine Castle said the protocol would be made available to members of both organisations to help them in their day-to-day work.
“We will encourage our members to embrace these guidelines and refer to them during the conveyancing process, for the benefit of both buyers and sellers,” she said.
